One More Time

Oh, come on! I just threw my winter coat into the back of my closet, and now I need to fish it back out again? I worked hard on my pretty bronze skin tone, yet it’s all for naught? Summer came by on a whim, for a cup of coffee and a pretty picture, and that’s about it. They say that time goes faster the older you get. If that’s true, then summer might accidentally zip by while I’m on the toilet by the time I’m 80.

One More Time

In other words, I need to make the most of the summer days I’m given. Enough sitting around with my laptop at home. Enough Teams meetings and presentations. Time to get to work… on enjoying myself. I’ll just take another week off in September so that I can soak up the last rays of sun in Limburg. Will you join me for a last hoorah?

One Last Day on the Beach

They didn’t honestly think they could close down on September 29th without an official farewell between me and that lazy sunbed near the water, did they? No, no, MRT Beach, I’ll definitely be coming by at least one more time. Sunglasses, swimming trunks, two layers of sunscreen with bronzer, towel, book, volleyball, smile, let’s go! The sparkling sands of MRT Beach are perfectly suited for enjoying the Maasplassen in a variety of ways. You can relax intensely (which is my intense intent), but you can also SUP, E-Foil, packraft, SUP-bike, play volleyball, and more! We even have a diving spot from which experienced divers can explore the largest freshwater shipwreck in Northern Europe. Basically, you can have a blast on, in, underneath, and next to the water at MRT Beach! I already hinted at my lazy tendencies, so you will find me on a sunny sunbed, maintaining a healthy 20-meter proximity to Beachbar Naut. If you see me without a cool drink in my hand, please come check to see if I’m all right.

One Last Day on the Water with a Sloop

You can’t tell me a drink and a bite don’t taste better when you’re peacefully bobbing up and down while watching cows graze along the shore. Every summer, I need to rent a sloop at the MRT Marina with my friends at least once. It’s my highlight! Usually, we’ll go a little later in the day, when the sun is lower and cooler. In preparation, we buy some tasty snacks at the MRT Shop & Bakery and bring a cool box to keep our drinks icy cold along with us. Then, it’s go-time for the four of us. I might be stepping on a few nautical toes by saying this, but… for us, the ride is just a formality. A necessity for getting us to that sweet spot along the shore, preferably with some of those grazing cows, a heron or two, or a quackle of ducks. At that point, we turn down the motor and turn up the fun. A drink (non-alcoholic for the sloop captain), a bite, and good company are all you need. It’s at that moment, surrounded by the people I love most, that the best conversations are held.

One Last Day of Barbecuing on the Terrace

Once upon a time, in a different life, I was a BBQ chef. Although I don’t necessarily miss the fire, the long days, and the acrid smell of smoke in all of my clothes, barbecuing is still a beloved and integral part of my summer personality. Without a little grilling and chilling, the summer is incomplete. Luckily, you can satisfy your BBQ needs at every villa in Parc Maasresidence Thorn. The Premium Outdoor and Wellness villas have their own kamado-style BBQ on the terrace. In any of the other villa types, you can simply rent one for a day. The resort also offers special BBQ packages. Whether you’re looking for authentic tastes, a true grill master experience, a veggie-cue, or a fish-only barbecue, you can choose your favorite menu at Parc Maasresidence Thorn. Reserve your package of choice two days ahead of time via “My Account” on our website, and they will make sure a delicious meal stands ready to sate your appetite on the day itself. Personally, I have been discovering the art of grilling delicious veggies lately, so I will be choosing the vegetarian option. Boy oh boy am I looking forward to one of those 3-to-12 o’clock grill sessions where you spend the entire day chatting, laughing, and relishing in the great atmosphere while firing up a tasty snack every once in a while.

One Last Day of Wellness

I know, I know, wellness is clearly something you can do in the winter too, but summer wellness is different from winter wellness. For me, wellness is not only about the sauna or the hot tub. It’s about the atmosphere. Give me the Wellness-type villa at Parc Maasresidence Thorn and I’ll show you what I mean:

In the morning, I step out of bed and start off the day with breakfast and a smoothie on the sunny terrace. Then, it’s time to freshen up a bit. I rinse off under the outdoor showers while I let the wooden tub in the garden fill up. Next, I chill in the tub with my favorite book until I resemble a raisin. When the water has cooled down, my sauna session begins. Roughly 15 minutes of sweating and then a splash into the cool tub. Finally, the finish line is back at the terrace; this time around with a large jug of sangria and a bite from the barbecue.

Doesn’t get more perfect than that! Now imagine trying this in the winter. Still great, but breakfast is inside, you might opt for the indoor shower, the cold outdoor tub is slightly optimistic, and barbecuing is out of the question. No, you can have a spa day in every season, but a summer spa day is for the summer only.

Of course, having the summer zip by so fast is terribly bothersome. You can choose to deny it, fight it, or get angry over it, but it’s going to happen anyway, whether you like it or not. So, the best you can do is enjoy every moment. Bask in the sun’s warmth one last time. Dig your toes in the sand one last time. Turn those skewers on the grill one last time. Splash around in the water one last time. One last time and then it’s all gone again, in the blink of an eye. A hurricane of sunshine and amazing memories.

Feeling a little down about summer ending? No need! Soon, autumn will come knocking, and that means there are boundless new things to experience at Parc Maasresidence Thorn. Keep an eye on our blog for fun autumn stories and subscribe to our newsletter for unique fall break deals and discounts!
